The Albert Appelhaus is located at an altitude of 1,638 meters in the heart of the Toten Gebirge in the Ausseerland. As a mountain hut of the Austrian Tourist Club, it offers around 70 sleeping places in rooms and dormitories.
A hearty kitchen with regional specialties, vegetarian dishes, and homemade pastries ensures the guests' culinary well-being. Payment is exclusively in cash, and reservations are only accepted by phone.
Between early October and early May, the house is closed due to weather conditions.
The Appelhaus can be reached via several hiking routes with a walking time of between four and six hours – among others from Grundlsee, Altaussee, Offensee, or Almsee.
It is located on significant long-distance hiking trails such as the Northern Alpine Trail 01, the European Long-Distance Path E4, and the Via Alpina. As a stage station of the Welser Höhenweg, it provides an ideal starting point for summit tours to Rinnerkogel, Woising, Backenstein, or leisurely circular hikes to Henarsee and Wildensee.
The combination of alpine natural experience and functional infrastructure makes the Appelhaus a popular destination for mountain enthusiasts.
