Schloss Sauerbrunn
Pöls-OberkurzheimThe listed building Schloss Sauerbrunn was built between 1547 and 1552 by Franz Freiherr von Teuffenbach.
The construction site of Sauerbrunn Castle was chosen because of twelve mineral springs that gave the castle its name. Since 1578, the water has been sold as "Thalheimer Sauerbrunn" and is considered the oldest health spring in Styria.
The springs were already known to the Celts and Romans. In the 20th century, the water was highly valued and received an award at the World Exhibition in Brussels in 1908. In the 1930s, up to 500,000 bottles were sold annually.
The castle served as a bottling facility until 2001. In 2008, it was sold to Thalheimer Heilwasser GmbH. Today, the spring water is also used for beer production. The revitalization of the facility in 2018 made the mineral-rich water accessible again and continued the tradition of Thalheimer healing water.
