Front Gardens. Courtyards. Graz. – Book Presentation at the Graz Museum

On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 6:00 PM, the Graz Museum invites you to the book presentation "Front Gardens. Courtyards. Graz." The event takes place in the museum’s courtyard – or in the lecture hall in case of bad weather. Edited by Claudia Beiser and Gertraud Prügger, the book highlights the rich history and significance of around 800 Gründerzeit-style front gardens and unbuilt courtyards in Graz – an urban density unique in Europe.

Experts from various disciplines discuss historical, ecological, social, and urban planning aspects of these green urban spaces. Their contributions raise awareness about the importance of these areas, especially in the context of current social and ecological challenges, and offer innovative approaches to deal with increasing pressure on urban spaces. The book also includes numerous design tips and practical advice for residents and users of courtyards and front gardens.

Welcoming remarks will be given by Mayor Elke Kahr, Deputy Mayor Judith Schwentner, and Graz Museum Director Sibylle Dienesch. The editors will then discuss the book together with co-authors such as Catalin Betz, Helwig Brunner, Melitta Fuchs, Oliver Gebhardt, Andrea Hönel, Martin Jury, Immanuel Karner, Oliver Konrad, Petra Kubin, Elisabeth Mitterfellner, Sanela Pansinger, and Astrid M. Wentner.
