Wann ist ein Mann ein Mann?

Graz

Special guided tour at the Graz Museum: masculinity through 900 years of Graz Region’s history.

What defines a man? This thought-provoking question takes center stage during the special guided tour "Wann ist ein Mann ein Mann?" on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at 3:00 PM at the Graz Museum Sackstraße.

On the occasion of Father’s Day, this event invites you to explore the many layers of masculinity throughout Graz’s long and eventful history. Set within the permanent exhibition “360 GRAZ. A Story of the City,” the tour focuses on shifting male role models over the past 900 years.

From medieval craftsmen to 19th-century fathers and today’s evolving identities – discover how ideals of masculinity have changed and what society expected from men in different times. Selected biographies and original historical objects illustrate everyday life, work, and expectations faced by men in Graz across centuries.

The tour also sheds light on alternative male role models that questioned traditional norms, offering fresh perspectives on how masculinity can be understood and lived.

This is a unique opportunity to reflect on masculinity in the context of the city’s history – for anyone interested in society, gender roles, and the past of the Graz Region and Styria.

Take a deep dive into the male side of Graz’s story – it’s a historical journey like no other in the Graz Region.
