„Amerika“ von Kafka
St. Martin im SulmtalPhilipp Hochmair brings Kafka's novel “Amerika” impressively to the stage.
Kafka's epochal work “America” tells the story of a homeless man at the beginning of the 20th century. Expelled from Europe by his parents, Karl Roßmann does not experience the desired promise in America, but rather social decline. Kafka's novel fragment “America” is a layered picture of myths, projections, facts and fantasy. The journey of the emigrant Karl Roßmann takes place in his head, from the entry into New York harbour to the final train journey to the great natural theater of Oklahoma, it is the odyssey of a man seeking a connection who does not despair of his own isolation until the end and perhaps even finds the home he was constantly searching for in Oklahoma's theater. Philipp Hochmair, known as Salzburg's Jedermann and from film and television, not only plays Karl Roßmann. A virtuoso of performance, he switches between the many characters in this multi-faceted solo as if in the blink of an eye, presenting the novel as the phantasm and experience of a single actor.
