Mariensäule am Hauptplatz
FürstenfeldThe Mary Column was erected in gratitude for the victory of the imperial army in 1664 over the Turks at Mogersdorf.
The Mary Column is located in the center of the main square.
An important reason for the victorious battle, as the story goes, was the fact that the river was at flood stage at that time. This idea has been reflected in the design of the fountain. A fountain basin measuring about 10 by 10 meters surrounds the Mary Column. Fourteen water columns, representing the fourteen municipalities of our district, provide an impressive water display. The eight benches correspond to the eight towns of East Styria and invite visitors to linger.
