We start from the parking at Gasthof Moassa and ascend via a former ski slope and a forest road to the unserviced Karreralm (shelter). There, we turn right and follow a trail, crossing the westernmost Raxenmäuer and the Paulaturm at the base of the wall, onto a latschen-covered ridge. From here, we follow the trail in several switchbacks upwards to the base of the wall and reach the red-marked entry point of the "Großer Fuchsloch" (steep trail with a short climbing section, directly to the Rax plateau).
At two yellow markers, we continue along the narrow path at the base of the wall, reaching a rock corner before the entry ramp (left above) of the "Kleines Fuchsloch".
We ascend this ramp and several smaller rock steps (old, faded brown-red markings), slightly keeping left, until we reach a cairn and the Rax plateau. Soon, we reconnect with the red-marked Großer Fuchsloch Trail and continue across the plateau, either directly to the Karl Ludwig House or, preferably, to the Heukuppe.
From there, we descend eastward to the Karl Ludwig House, take a break, and then descend via the secured Gretchensteig back to Gasthof Moassa.
Approach variant: If access to Gasthof Moassa is closed (Monday to Wednesday), the approach is from the parking at Preiner Gscheid and the lower Reisstalersteig to the base of the Raxenmäuer. At the entry to the Reisstalersteig, continue along the base of the wall for a few more minutes westward to the entry of the Kleines Fuchsloch.
