Piber, the home of the world-famous Lipizzaners, is a great starting point for this very diverse cycling tour. Cycle through idyllic villages in the Lipizzanerheimat, along rivers and streams, through shady forests, and up into the alpine pasture region to the “Holy Water” spring.
Due to its length and elevation gain, the Lipizzaner Tour is ideal for e-bikers and presents an ambitious challenge for touring cyclists. With an e-bike, the total riding time is around five hours, although there are two shorter route options available – just make sure not to miss the mountainous highlight at the “Holy Water” spring.
There are many excellent places to stop for food and sightseeing along the route, ranging from elegant golf restaurants to rustic wine taverns (*Buschenschänken*). Worth visiting are not only the world-famous Lipizzaner Stud Farm in Piber but also many churches and chapels, including the pilgrimage church Maria Lankowitz.
The route is highly varied – starting in the flatter southern section through fields and meadows, passing charming villages and the remote Teigitschgraben, through the town of Köflach, and all the way up into the alpine pastures at the foot of the Gleinalm. The cycling path is ideally connected via the S-Bahn (GKB), making it easily accessible for cyclists from Graz and other regions.
