Mostwärtsradweg R49
Touring cyclists and e-bikers will love this route, which impressively showcases the diversity of the Graz Region. You won’t go hungry or thirsty either – the trail is dotted with traditional inns and rustic taverns offering plenty of opportunities to stop and enjoy local hospitality.
This circular tour begins in the south of Graz, where the Mostwärtsradweg (R49) branches off from the Murradweg (R2). The route initially leads to Laßnitzhöhe. After a relaxing break in this health resort known for its healing climate, the cycle path gently descends past the train station to the turnoff over Nestelbachberg to Nestelbach bei Graz – the birthplace of Baroque composer Johann Joseph Fux.
The climb to Schemerlhöhe follows. A short detour to the Hügellandhof is definitely worthwhile before the route continues along the ridge (R56), offering panoramic views until reaching the turnoff to the Ferbersbachradweg (R66).
Through green forests, the path leads steeply downhill to Vasoldsberg, where the historic Klingenstein octagonal barn (*Achteckstadl*) is well worth a visit. In the village center, Gasthof Riedisser and other nearby establishments invite you to discover local culinary delights.
The Ferbersbachradweg (R66) takes you through small villages and along beautiful natural trails beside the creek, all the way to the Mur river. Before crossing the Mur bridge, the route branches north into protected riparian forests. Along gravel paths, you pass the Gössendorf hydroelectric power plant and arrive at the Auwiesen recreation area. Here, a restored river meander has formed a protected lake, perfect for water sports or a refreshing swim.
