A challenging mountain ride – with “only” one serious climb and summit – almost too good to be true! The Schenkenberg loop in the Graz mountain region offers unique mountain and river panoramas, linking the Mur Valley with the foothills of the Gleinalm range.
The Schenkenberg Tour in the Graz mountain region offers impressive panoramic views of mountains and rivers, connecting the course of the Mur River with the foothills of the Gleinalm.
The route first follows the Murradweg R2 from Frohnleiten via Adriach, past Rabenstein Castle and the Murhof Golf Club, to Deutschfeistritz. From there, it leaves the Murradweg and follows the regional road through Zitoll and Prenning, alongside the Übelbach stream to Waldstein.
At Waldstein Castle, a gentle climb begins along the Arzbach stream to the Rotmüller farm. There, the route turns right and continues on a steeper section up to the Ebenwirt inn, located at 900 meters on the Schenkenberg.
From the top, wide views open up across the Graz mountain region, including the Schöckl, Rote Wand, and Hochlantsch. Hiking trails to Haneggkogel and the “Gmoa-Alm” also start from here – making this an ideal Bike & Hike tour.
After the Ebenwirt, the route descends steeply along a gravel road through the Rathlosgraben, passing an old guesthouse. It then continues through the Gamsgraben and follows the L121 road to Rothleiten. At the Mur bridge, the route rejoins the Murradweg (R2), which leads downstream back to Frohnleiten.
