    Eastern Styria not only delights with idyllic landscapes and culinary highlights, but also with a wide range of sports and leisure activities. Numerous activities invite you to actively discover the region all year round. Whether spring, summer, fall or winter - here you will find a variety of opportunities to enjoy your vacation in motion at any time of the year.

    Aside from hiking, cycling and water fun, there are plenty of other opportunities for recreation. Whether you view the Eastern Styria from the lofty heights of a hot air balloon or from the ground on horseback. Those who prefer to play a game of golf in peace and quiet or recharge their batteries in the Kneipp facilities are of course welcome to do so. Climbing is more adventurous, you may not be as high up as in a hot air balloon, but you should still be free from giddiness. As you can see, a sports vacation in Eastern Styria offers a wide range of opportunities to let off steam.

    Orienteering 2025

    Around 700 participants are expected to take part in the Austrian Championships and can look forward to exciting competitions in Eastern Styria. The event kicks off with a sprint in Hartberg on July 7, followed by a challenging distance in St. Jakob/Walde on July 8. On July 10, the shortened long distance on the Ringkogel awaits you.

    Golf

    Golfing with a magnificent, panoramic view of the Schöckl or in the romantic atmosphere behind the Gut Freiberg Castle, in the midst of our hills and alpine landscape. Two golf courses in the Eastern Styria offer variety and excellent quality with 18 or 9 holes. The golf courses offer tournaments and lessons.

    Hot air balloon rides

    The East Styrian hill country inspires with its gentle charm - from up close as well as from 2,000 meters above. No wonder the region has become a popular meeting place for hot-air balloonists. Secure yourself a box seat in the sky and let the wind carry you through the impressive panorama - an experience that will stay with you for a long time.

    Riding

    There is an extensive, attractive network of trails for our horses, leading through the most varied landscapes of Eastern Styria. Riding stables offer guest stables for vacations with your own horse, as well as courses and riding lessons for anyone who wants to get to know or improve their riding skills.

    Climbing

    You will find climbing walls, an ice waterfall and boulder installations in the Eastern Styria. Those who prefer to enjoy the climbing experience outside in the sunshine conquer the Hochlantsch, the most striking peak in the Almenland Nature Park.

    Tennis

    Dominic Thiem, Alexander Zverev and others have made this trendy sport increasingly popular. Local private tennis courts ensure that you can swing your tennis racquet while you are on holiday. You will also find public tennis courts and recreational facilities in the sporty Eastern Styria.

    Beachvolleyball

    Beach volleyball fans get their money's worth in Eastern Styria! Numerous well-maintained sand courts invite you to play exciting matches. The beach volleyball facilities near the outdoor pool are particularly popular, where sport and relaxation can be perfectly combined.     Running & jogging

    Eastern Styria is real terrain for endurance athletes: varied routes, crisp climbs and natural trails through hills and forests. Whether it's tempo runs in the flatlands, challenging altitude profiles or long endurance laps - runners will find ideal conditions for effective training here. Put on your running shoes and off you go - the route is yours!

    Archery

    Archery in Eastern Styria combines nature, concentration and exercise. Whether at the Gleisdorf archery course, the Almenland archery club, the archers in Vorau or at Bogenbau Gerhard Wiesler - sporting adventures with bow and arrow await you here!

    Surfing and stand up paddle

    Stand up paddling (SUP) is a popular water sport that can be enjoyed at many bathing lakes, such as Lake Stubenberg. Please note: you can't borrow a board everywhere. Windsurfing is also possible at Lake Stubenberg.
